Inspired by the work of his cousin and renowned watercolour artist Nornie Gude, watercolour was the natural choice of mediums when Neil first put brush to paper. Since then Neil has received instruction from a number of Australia’s most highly regarded contemporary watercolour artists, and he continues to develop his own style in this challenging and exciting medium. Every painting is a new opportunity. There is no subject that is not worth tackling. On location painting and careful observation are the primary inspirations for Neil’s work. An important aim is to try and capture a scene in a way that evokes the feeling of the original observation.
