Joan Halpin
Since retiring to Bendigo in 2002, Joan has immersed herself in her art - gaining a Diploma of Visual Arts in 2006 and going onto Latrobe University to study Fine Arts (Ceramic). Having studied painting, printmaking and sculpture, it is difficult to say what medium she prefers. The Bendigo bushland with its birds, in particular choughs and magpies, are constant subjects in her painting and printmaking. With her popular ceramic sculptures ‘Women with Wings’ and ‘Women with Attitude’, Joan seeks to emphasise women’s inner beauty and strength. The wings are designed to inspire; they represent the ability of her women to fly – and find their inner voice. Each sculpture carries a signature ‘bird’, drawn from Joan’s love of nature. As Judy Garland once sang: ‘If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why oh why can't I?’ [email protected] Bendigo studio – by appointment |
