Inspired by the work of his cousin and renowned watercolour artist Nornie Gude, watercolour was the natural choice of mediums when Neil first put brush to paper. Since then Neil has received instruction from a number of Australia’s most highly regarded contemporary watercolour artists, and he continues to develop his own style in this challenging and exciting medium. His work has two primary subjects, landscape and portrait. His landscape work is inspired by on location painting and careful observation. An important aim is to try and capture a scene in a way that evokes the feeling of the original observation. His portrait work attempts to marry likeness of the subject with an emotional intensity.
