Vivien Pells started painting in 1997 under the guidance of Gerard Mutsaers, a realist artist in oils, and continued to learn with him for 10 years. His teaching method encouraged observation of the Australian bush and light. Gerard introduced me to plein air painting, which I continue to enjoy.
In 2018 I travelled to the Blue Mountains to train with realist landscape artist, John Wilson, who took me further into understanding the matter of light and how it affects everything it contacts, how it diminishes and expands objects and shapes them. In 2019 I ventured into watercolours guided by Terry Jarvis and am still very much the novice with this new medium, but love the way in which it seems to paint a picture itself, which may not be quite what was planned. It has an extraordinary effect on my brain as well, an explanation of which I do not have. In addition to painting the scene, I like to be able to tell a story, as every work holds a memory. My mediums are oil, acrylic and watercolour. Contact: [email protected] |
